Famous old west
shootout
The popularity of Tombstone today rests solely on the notorious ‘old west’ shootout between the Earps, the Clantons, and the McLaureys...the ‘Gunfight at the OK Corral’.  Virgil Earp, the sheriff in town, had mandated that all weapons be surrendered within the city limits. Virgil enlisted the support of his brothers, Morgan, and Wyatt Earp along with Doc Holliday to confront the Clantons and the McLareys resulting in the famous shootout near the OK Corral.
The Crystal Palace, Big Nose Kate’s, or the Longhorn
The O.K. shootout is not the only thing to see while in Tombstone. Just the stroll down the wooden sidewalks gives the visitor a good look at what the old west towns looked like back when. All tourist like to eat good food. No matter whether it’s the Crystal Palace, Big Nose Kate’s Saloon, or the Longhorn you will enjoy your selection. If you are interested in ‘mining’, the Good Enough silver mine has tours. Over 1.5 billion dollars of silver was mined in the Tombstone area.
Head south to Mexico like the cowboys did
Tombstone is located on Arizona’s Hwy 80, a major artery that leads south to Douglas, Arizona and the border with Mexico. This is a great ride that provides a perfect half way rest stop in Bisbee, Arizona, located the Mule Mountains. Bisbee is a charming old mining town with the historic town resembling many small European towns. Bisbee is home of the Queen Mine, the longest active mine in Arizona. Heading further south about 30 miles will find you on the border, in Douglas, Arizona. If you head north out of Douglas on Hwy 191 to McNeal, Arizona, you can turn your iron west on Davis Road to head back to Tombstone.

Wyatt Earp
Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp (March 19, 1848 – January 13, 1929) was a city policeman (assistant town marshal) in Wichita, Kansas, Dodge City, Kansas and Tombstone, Arizona. He was also at different times a farmer, teamster, bouncer, saloon-keeper, miner and on one occasion a boxing referee. He is best known for his part in the gunfight at the O.K. Corral during which three outlaw cowboys were killed. The 30-second gunfight defined the rest of his life. Earp's modern-day reputation is that of the Old West's "toughest and deadliest gunman of his day."
Doc Holliday
John Henry "Doc" Holliday (August 14, 1851 – November 8, 1887) was an American gambler, gunfighter and dentist of the American Old West, who is usually remembered for his friendship with Wyatt Earp and his involvement in the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
As a young man, Holliday earned a D.D.S. degree in dentistry and set up a practice in Atlanta, Georgia. However, in 1873 he was diagnosed with tuberculosis, the same disease that had claimed his mother when he was 15. He moved to the American southwest in hopes that the climate would prolong his life. Taking up gambling as a profession, he acquired a reputation as a deadly gunman.
During his travels, he met and became good friends with Wyatt Earp and Earp's brothers. In 1880, he moved to Tombstone, Arizona, and participated alongside the Earps in the famous gunfight.
